This policy explains how Railston & Company Ltd ("we", "us") handles personal information in connection with this website, railstons.com. We take great care to keep your information safe, and we will never share it with others without your express permission, except where necessary to deliver our own services or where required by law.
Cookies and information stored on your device
Cookies are very small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. We set no cookies of our own, and we do not use cookies for advertising, for profiling, or to follow you across other websites.
Three cookies are nevertheless placed on your device when you visit this site — by our hosting provider, not by us. This website is hosted by GoDaddy, whose platform automatically adds a monitoring script to every page it serves. That script is not part of our website's code and we cannot remove it from our end. It sets:
- _tccl_visitor — a randomly generated identifier that stays on your device between visits
- _tccl_visit — a randomly generated identifier for your current visit
- _scc_session — a count of the pages you have viewed during this visit, and the time of your most recent page view
These are set as soon as a page loads, before you have had any opportunity to accept or decline them. We did not choose this arrangement and we have asked GoDaddy to switch it off; that request is open with them. The information goes to GoDaddy rather than to us — we receive no reports from it and make no use of it. You can block or delete these cookies in your browser settings, and this website works normally without them.
Separately, if you use the light and dark theme switch in the page header, your choice is saved in your browser's local storage under the name railstonsDarkMode. Nothing is stored unless you use the switch. It never leaves your device, is never sent to us, and cannot be used to identify you. Clearing your browsing data removes it.
Measuring our visitors
We do not run analytics on this website. We hold no analytics account for it, we have installed no measurement tool of our own, and we do not build profiles of visitors. The only page counting that takes place is inside the GoDaddy hosting script described above, which reports to GoDaddy and not to us.
As with any website, our hosting provider keeps standard server logs of requests made to the site, and those logs include IP addresses. The hosting control panel can produce basic traffic summaries from them. We do not use these for marketing and we do not try to identify individual visitors from them.
Fonts and other third-party requests
The typefaces used on this site are served by Google Fonts. Displaying them means your browser requests the font files from Google (fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com), which discloses your IP address to Google. No cookie is set by this, and we receive no information from it.
Other than those font requests and the GoDaddy monitoring script described above, this website makes no third-party requests.
Social media
This website contains plain links to our profiles on social networks such as LinkedIn. We do not embed any code provided by social networks, so no data about your visit is generated for or shared with them by this site. If you follow a link to a social network, its own privacy policy applies.
Correspondence
This website has no contact forms and collects no personal information automatically. We receive personal information only when you choose to contact us directly — for example by telephone or post — in which case we receive the information you provide, such as your name, contact details and the content of your message. We use it solely to respond to your enquiry and, where relevant, to maintain a business relationship with you or your organisation. Our lawful basis for this processing is legitimate interest.
Sharing and retention
We do not sell personal information. We share it only with service providers that support our business operations, or where required by law. We keep correspondence for as long as needed to deal with your enquiry and to meet our legal and accounting obligations, after which it is deleted.
Your rights
We work to the Data Protection Act 2018, the UK GDPR and the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003. You have rights over your personal data, including the right to access, correct or request deletion of it, and the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
We should be straightforward about one point. The hosting cookies described above are placed without a consent step, because they are added by the hosting platform before our own pages run. We have asked our host to remove them, and we have explained above how to block them in the meantime.
The Collabaro platform
The Collabaro product operates under its own privacy and data processing terms, provided to licensed customers and available at collabaro.com.
