This policy explains how Railston & Company Ltd ("we", "us") handles personal information in connection with this website, railstons.com. We take great care to keep your information safe, and we will never share it with others without your express permission, except where necessary to deliver our own services or where required by law.
Cookies and information stored on your device
Cookies are very small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. We set no cookies unless you choose to accept them, and we do not use cookies for advertising, for profiling, or to follow you across other websites.
When you first visit, a banner asks whether you accept analytics cookies. If you decline, or do not choose, no analytics cookie is set and nothing is requested from Google. You can change your mind at any time using the "Cookie settings" link in the footer of every page, which clears your choice and asks again.
This website is hosted by Vercel Inc., which serves the pages and does not set cookies on your device as part of doing so.
Two items are stored in your browser's local storage, and neither is a cookie or leaves your device: railstonsDarkMode, saved only if you use the light and dark theme switch, and cookie_consent, which records whether you accepted or declined analytics so that we do not keep asking. Clearing your browsing data removes both.
Measuring our visitors
If you accept analytics cookies, we use Google Analytics 4, a service provided by Google, to count visits and see which pages are read and how visitors reach the site. It sets cookies beginning "_ga" on your device, which expire after up to two years, and sends information about your visit (such as the pages you view, your approximate location derived from your IP address, and your browser and device type) to Google, which may process it outside the UK. We use this to improve the site and do not use it for advertising or to build profiles of individuals. Google's own privacy policy applies to its handling of that data. If you decline, none of this happens.
As with any website, our hosting provider keeps standard server logs of requests made to the site, and those logs include IP addresses. We do not use these for marketing and we do not try to identify individual visitors from them.
Fonts and third-party requests
The typefaces used on this site (Sora and Inter) are served from this website's own server. Apart from Google Analytics, which loads only if you accept it, loading a page makes no requests to Google or to any other third party.
Social media
This website contains plain links to our profiles on social networks such as LinkedIn. We do not embed any code provided by social networks, so no data about your visit is generated for or shared with them by this site. If you follow a link to a social network, its own privacy policy applies.
Correspondence
This website has no contact forms and collects no personal information automatically. We receive personal information only when you choose to contact us directly — for example by telephone or post — in which case we receive the information you provide, such as your name, contact details and the content of your message. We use it solely to respond to your enquiry and, where relevant, to maintain a business relationship with you or your organisation. Our lawful basis for this processing is legitimate interest.
Sharing and retention
We do not sell personal information. We share it only with service providers that support our business operations, or where required by law. We keep correspondence for as long as needed to deal with your enquiry and to meet our legal and accounting obligations, after which it is deleted.
Your rights
We work to the Data Protection Act 2018, the UK GDPR and the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003. You have rights over your personal data, including the right to access, correct or request deletion of it, and the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
The Collabaro platform
The Collabaro product operates under its own privacy and data processing terms, provided to licensed customers and available at collabaro.com.
